Hi, l would like to know if anyone has had a bad experience at the Box Hill Hospital? I have had a very bad experience with a doctor whom l will be mentioning at a later date. I was assaulted and due to the doctors negligent handling towards me, l remain in discomfort, pain and am unable to psychologically recover from the surgery that l so hard tried to avoid.
I was in some words forced and was given no options but to go ahead with the surgery. The doctor came up with so much unbelievable rubbish that has had me suffering now for 8 months and counting. I will give more details in the coming days regarding this case. Thank you for taking the time to view this.

Hi and thank you for your comments. I have spoken to the mentioned department and have had no real gain from them. In fact they where very unprofessional with their answers and handling of the call. I will be taking this matter much higher then the above. L'Chaim.

Put your complaint in writing, then it has to be dealt with. When you ring you only get a person trained to handle basic inquiries and nuisance calls. Details on how to make a written complaint are on the web site.

I'm in a similar situation. In a stroke of luck i spoke to a manager when i originally rang the health commissioner, she pretended to care at least and went on to log the complaint, give me a reference number and send out the paperwork required to make a formal complaint.I've chosen to hold off on the paperwork but at least it's on the system.Tread lightly, you may need a surgeon down the track and it's hard to find someone willing to perform a procedure on you if you've made complaints about their peers in the past.Complaining about psychological problems can backfire on you, they can suggest that it's causing your pain, then you'll be sent to their psychiatrist who'll confirm it.The best idea is to work on finding a medical professional who's willing to diagnose your physical problems.Don't go in complaining of the previous doctor, just explain your symptoms and let them diagnose.Take someone with you to all appointments, keep a diary of what's been said.Best of luck!

ps,if you have x-rays etc don't hand them over to anyone. If you have to leave them with your new doctor or surgeon insist that they document the episode numbers of each scan and put it in writing for you. These things have a tendency to go "missing",if that happens your left with the written report of the scan which is only one persons opinion of the results.

I was also told by the Box Hell Hospital, that the doctor who did the surgery was no longer with Box Hell Hospital and that was way back early 2009 (Feb - Mar). Only to find out that he was still with them up until Friday the 11th of September 2009. I wanted to see the doctor to ask questions about my surgery and the on going problems related to the surgery and so on. A meeting with this protected man was not possible.

Not suprising JaLa.I've had my scans stolen by the head of orthopaedics at one of our Vic public hospitals. You can make a formal complaint to the hospital and ask for mediation with the surgeon before you go to the health commissioner.Put it all in writing as politely as you can manage,if the hospital refuses mediation after your polite request they will look bad when it gets to the commissioner.Send things by registered mail so they can't claim they haven't received stuff.

Hi rjm, thank you so much for your much appreciated help, it is most welcome. I know doctors are human just like everyone else, and we all make mistakes, but they sure make a hell of a lot. I read in the paper not to long ago, that 4500+ people have died at the hand of a doctor, and l think that was based only here in Australia. WOW, what on earth is going on.

If they make a mistake bad enough to warrant being sued quite franky they'd rather you dead.Dead people can't sue and their relatives are usually too busy grieving.

Yes l totally agree with you. This is a case l will not let them get away with. This doctor could not except what l wanted and as a result of this, l now suffer in pain, discomfort and so on. I have 3 years to take this on, but l don't need what the government puts in place with their statutory limitation time frame. This case will begin shortly. I will post all info here.

To have this case taken further, l need too have above a 5% physical impairment or above a 10% psychological impairment. If l am under these figures, this case goes no where. Since 2003 and when the government changed the way in which people get their rights sorted out, most people have no leg to stand on. It is so unfair, and whoever these guys are who make these rules, l hope their the ones who cop it. So such doctors as in my case, walk free without any action taken against them. Who judges these animals? The systems in place such as the Legal Commissioners and Medical Boards and so on, they do absolutely nothing for the person who is suffering. What a waste. These systems need to be overhauled and very quickly. Medical negligence, such crappy doctors simply just get away with murder.

I will expose this case in the Media and further on, on the net and where ever l can make this case public. It is of my opinion, that you steer away from the box hell hospital.

Just to make sure that people know the location of this hospital in question, it is based in Melbourne.

Hey JaLa.What response did you get from the hospital.?It's worth going through with the complaint to the health commissioner. You're right, they rarely act however you need to go through each of their stupid avenues of complaint. That way if it does get to the law courts it's obvious that you tried to mediate and weren't merely interested in compensation.
You may find your local Liberal member of parliament helpful if you decide to take it to the media.
