Having been following this forum for a few months now, I'd like to share some advice that my father has always said. He sais;

Son, It's been my experience that "They" CAN do that, because "They" can do whatever they please. There is one exception that may offer you some solace - "They" can't make you like it.

Hope this helps! :)

Cheers,
Stuart

When I was a law enforcement officer for both State and local Government, I would in most circumstances give people what is known in the trade as the attitude test. Whenever any person to whom I was speaking to with respect of my duties says; “You can’t do that” I would do it with bells on. Sick and tired of people who instead of asking how or why, launch themselves into a tirade of abuse. They infringe the law and inevitably it’s always the law enforcers fault. Chang your attitude and change the outcome.

Hey, most cops I've encountered are good cops.

They really do have the worst job in the world, and they don't get paid enough for it. They get spat on, abused, beaten up and get thanked with public contempt every time something goes wrong.

I remember a time (a good era) when the local cop was respected.

He'd say "You look half pissed. The next rest stop is 500m away. Pull over there and have a sleep. If I see you again tonight, I'll book you."

He had the freedom to wipe the smirk off a smart mouth without a media storm and a public inquest.

That comment wasn't directed at you, it was directed at your boss. Your crew has to follow stupid orders and you aren't the worst in any case. If you really want to see lawlessness, try having a run-in with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. =/

"They" aren't the people on the front line. "They" are the pencil necks who draft up guidelines of what people should be doing even though they've got no real world experience.

It's more than a case of "as with any job".
A cops job is not just a job and should never be taken that way. Even the cops themselves will tell you it's a lifestyle - not a job!
Now look at just what type of people actually want to be a cop and BINGO - there lays your answers.

Most cops were bullied in schools. So many of them like the power trip they get when they become a cop... I think many of them need counseling.

An "Old Crim" I knew always claimed, "They can arrest you for breathing air". Always carry your I. D. is a great help, because "they" can take you off to find out who you are.
I am not legally qualified.

When I went to school, two of the guys who were the biggest thugs, liars, cheats and bullies went on to become police in the Queensland police force.
Later, when I went University, I remember a Psychology lecturer saying that if they were not in the police force they would have been criminals.
And now, as I look back at all the police who have been jailed for criminal activity, extortion, corruption, rape, murder and a host of other crimes that grace our newspapers on a weekly basis, I realize he was 100% right!

One of the biggest bullies when I was at school went on to become a politician in Queensland, but I really laughed when he ended up in jail.

There are some people who have a grudge against police.

This is not because they believe in truth justice and the american way but because they feel hard done by by the constabulary because theyve had their butt kicked by the cops or are currently having problems with the law so its the all about me syndrome.

I have heard that story in the past from drug addicts to x criminals.
Everyone is innocent and if it wasnt for some bullying cop and were left alone then they wouldnt bother anyone, well thats just not true and society doesnt buy it either.

Luke 11 46: Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! For you load men with burdens that are difficult to carry, and you yourselves won't even lift one finger to help carry those burdens.

People just hate being caught and can't see the big picture. It's much easier for them to hate the cops for catching them than it is to hate themselves for committing the crime. As with everything in life there is always someone else to blame :)

Sure, and there are no innocent people in jail?
And the police never ever abuse their powers!
The legal system always gets it right!
And not to mention, there are no spiteful people out there who make false allegations against others!
Na, that would be a perfect world.
So, what planet do you come from?

We have a great copper where we are. We only have about 3000 residents, lots of those are young families. He will be stern with the kids, give them warnings about not wearing their helmets or riding their unregistered bikes, but the next time whammo...thats when they learn that they cannot get away with everything. He's approachable and always gives a wave if you drive past. BUT do the wrong thing and he will come and get you, he's just your typical old school country cop, its a pity he's retiring soon.

A few years ago one of my mates suspected his wife was having an affair behind his back...so he came home during the middle of the day after a tip from a neighbour, he found the bloke hiding under his bed. One of queenslands leading polititions. lol. The guy took a photo of him crawling out from under the bed. We got it hanging up in our workplace.
